Justin Bieber Makes 'Huge Impact' On Organ Donor Registrations
Registration at Ontario bank surges after singer tweets about one fan's need for a lung transplant.

Justin Bieber is a charitable guy. So when a fan of his reached out to him on Twitter to help spread the word about organ and blood donation, one particular bank quickly saw more and more people in the giving spirit.
Belieber Helene Campbell, 20, tweeted the teen star last week about her own struggles (including how she herself needs a lung transplant). Bieber then began tweeting to her and about her, shedding more light on the cause than the fan could have ever anticipated.
In the days since the online correspondence, the Ontario-based Trillium Gift of Life Network has seen donations skyrocket to more than 1,200 people, four times the amount the network usually receives. In part it had a lot to do with Bieber, but also the campaign started by Campbell, who suffers from idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis.
"Helene has done an incredible job inspiring and motivating Ontarians to register their consent to organ and tissue donation. On an average day we would expect about 50 new online registrations," President and CEO Ronnie Gavsie said in a statement on Wednesday (January 25). "Since Helene's campaign began last Thursday, the average has been closer to 200 per day! There are over 1,500 people in Ontario waiting for a lifesaving organ transplant, on behalf of all them and Trillium Gift of Life Network, thank you Helene and thank you Justin Bieber!"
Shortly after his initial tweet, she shared with him, "@justinbieber you have made a huge impact, not only on my life, but for many others in need of the gift of life now and in the future!"
His response: "@alungstory glad to be able to help. best part of what i do."
Bieber's other charity work includes his Believe Charity Drive as well as his participation with the Pencils of Promise foundation.

<P><a href="/music/artist/_kesha_/artist.jhtml">Ke$ha</a>'s already got the face paint down pat, and, during recent live sets, she's even taken to <a href="http://www.popeater.com/2011/03/17/kesha-drinks-blood-during-performance" target="_blank">guzzling blood</a> out of a human heart, so it should come as no surprise that, on her upcoming album, the pop star is taking things back to the most <i>theatrical</i> era of rock: the prop-heavy, arena-spanning heyday of the 1970s. Ke$h revealed her plans over the weekend in Los Angeles, on the red carpet of KIIS FM's annual <a href="/news/articles/1663909/wango-tango-britney-spears-kesha.jhtml">Wango Tango</a> concert, where she told MTV News that the follow-up to her breakout <i>Animal</i> album (and, we suppose, <a href="/news/articles/1652714/kehas-cannibal-a-cheat-sheet.jhtml"><i>Cannibal</i></a> too) would be heavy on hard riffs and light on pretty much <i>everything</i> else. </p><div class="player-placeholder right" id="vid:652875" width="240" height="211"></div><p> "The next album ... I've been working on writing on the road, but as far as a sound, I just know it's gonna be balls-out, irreverent rock and roll," she said. "I've been pretty much in this '70s rock and roll kick and I just want to capture some of the true essence of what rock and roll is, and that's just irreverence and sexiness and fun and not giving a f---, so we'll definitely put a bit of rock and roll in it." So, does that mean that fans can expect the likes of Alice Cooper or Peter Frampton to show up on her new album? Perhaps. Because while Ke$ha's new album is still a ways off, she's already begun calling in favors, hoping to line up a killer collabo for the new disc. "I'm trying, trust me," she laughed. And they even suggested how much they think the whole business might be worth. "I think they're terribly private about it," HuffPost celebrity columnist Rob Shuter explained. "I think if they do anything, they'll take the Tom Cruise/Katie Holmes way that they did with Suri and they'll do it on the cover of a monthly like <i>Vanity Fair</i>. But I don't even think they'll do that. They'll definitely, in my opinion, not be selling a picture to the highest bidding weekly magazine. That's just not their style." With editors scrambling for the authorized photos of the newborn and her parents, there are also tabloids scrambling to get some image of Blue, whether or not B and Jay have anything to do with its release. "In the case of unauthorized photos, they're typically not the best quality. So if it was sort of your average photo, there's always people who will pay up to a million dollars for that type of photo," said David Caplan, who has worked at celebrity magazines like <i>Star</i> and <i>People</i>. "Again, it really depends on the quality, and typically it's the hard-core tabloids who will buy that because they won't be in the running for the real baby photos, which will likely go to either sort of like a <i>People</i> or even a monthly. "I think with Beyoncé there's no guarantee she'll sell her photo to a weekly magazine, I can see her choosing to do it in <i>Vogue</i> and <i>Vanity Fair</i>," he added, noting that going that route ensures she can control the entire rollout. <i>How do you think Beyoncé and Jay-Z will release photos of their baby girl? PARK CITY, Utah — Joel Edgerton could tell you about Kathryn Bigelow's untitled Osama Bin Laden movie, but then he'd have to kill you.
OK, perhaps it's not as dramatic as all of that. Still, the "Wish You Were Here" actor spoke briefly with MTV News about starring in the Navy Seal thriller alongside Chris Pratt and Jessica Chastain, and while he's "very excited" to start shooting the film, his lips are sealed on the top-secret op.
"I can't really tell you anything about it," he told MTV during the Sundance Film Festival. "I don't know that I can't tell you anything about it, but I'd be very ill-informed to talk about it at this point. But I'm just excited to work with all of those guys."
Edgerton was much more inclined to talk about "The Great Gatsby," Baz Luhrmann's upcoming adaptation of the F. Scott Fitzgerald classic. The Australian actor, who stars in "Gatsby" as drunken socialite Tom Buchanan, spoke at length about Luhrmann's "very subtle" use of 3-D in the film.
"3-D is absolutely the right thing for [the film]," said Edgerton. "I've seen sections of the movie and it sort of invites you in. It's not like spectacle 3-D; you're not being confronted by things blowing at your head. But it invites you in. What it does psychologically is very interesting, and I think you'll forget you're watching 3-D."
"Also, it's lavish," he continued. "That era was so lavish. The '20s was about excess, so why not add a bit of excess to the filmmaking as well?"
For those who remain skeptical of the use of 3-D in "Gatsby," Edgerton expects negative opinions to change when the movie is released this December.
"Baz knows absolutely everything he's doing," he said. "I'm really excited for all the people [groaning] about 3-D to see the movie. I hope everybody is crossing their arms and frowning to begin with, because I think they'll unfurl by the time they see it."

Robert Pattinson's 'Cosmopolis' Wins MTV Movie Brawl
More than 3 million votes were cast to push the David Cronenberg-directed indie over brand-new franchise 'The Hunger Games.'

The final buzzer has sounded, the brawl for it all is over, and Robert Pattinson is the last man standing: "Cosmopolis" has won MTV Movie Brawl 2012.
His indie drama made for one hell of a Cinderella story in the vote-driven tournament to pick the must-see movie of the year. Entering the bracket as a #4 seed (following an impressive showing in the play-in round), "Cosmopolis" appeared to be facing an unavoidable Elite Eight ouster. What were the chances Pattinson's cerebral film about a young finance wiz taking a day-long limo ride though New York City would beat "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2"? Apparently pretty good. Fans banded together, choosing to support RPattz's post-vampire career rather than the franchise that made him a star. "Breaking Dawn" was sent packing.
And so, after easily fighting off "The Dark Knight Rises," "Cosmopolis" came to face "The Hunger Games," a brand-new franchise that had waltzed through the tournament and seemed to be the odds-on favorite to win the whole tourney. But it was not to be. After more than 3 million votes and a slew of lead changes, Pattinson's film beat back Jennifer Lawrence's series to become the undisputed champion of the Movie Brawl.
Hours before voting closed Monday afternoon (January 23), with "Cosmopolis" staking out an insurmountable lead and the MTV Movies team at the Sundance Film Festival, we broke the news to Pattinson's co-star, Paul Giamatti, that their film had won the tournament.
"Holy cow, that's astounding!" he said. "The fact of that is amazing. ... That's a really cool thing that it brings that visibility to that movie."
It's been a whirlwind few weeks in the tournament, so we'd like to thank all the fans who voted. The Brawl broke bigger than we could have ever hoped. Well over 5 million votes were cast. The competition spread wildly over Twitter and Facebook. Our comments sections caught fire as fans debated, argued and rallied. In the end, though, only one film could stand as the undisputed champion of the MTV Movie Brawl. Pattinson, Giamatti, director David Cronenberg and everyone connected to "Cosmopolis" — we salute you!

<P>What kind of wedding gift do you give the royal couple who has everything? The wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton is on Friday (April 29), so MTV News reached out to some of our favorite Hollywood celebrities — from Ke$ha to Adam Lambert. Fortunately, they had some solid ideas! </p><div class="player-placeholder right" id="vid:647203" width="240" height="211"></div><p> "I haven't met them, so it would be kind of awkward," the "Tik Tok" singer admitted to MTV News. "I might paint them something. Maybe I'll paint them a guitar." Like Ke$ha, other celebs had suggestions that were from the heart, even if they weren't the most practical. "I will go out on a limb and say these two individuals maybe haven't had Uncrustables before in their life. I would get them a strawberry Uncrustable," Mike Posner said about the pastry. David Cook followed up on the all-American food idea. "I feel like they have everything except maybe they probably don't have an Applebee's gift card. I'll go [with an] Applebee's gift card," the "American Idol" alum said. Other stars said they'd gift the British prince and soon-to-be-princess with an item they were personally best known for. "I'd probably buy William some eyeliner," Lambert said. "He could do that, he could rock that look. I think." Ne-Yo was more empathetic, saying he would give gifts that could help shield them from photographers and blend in with everyday people. "Three years' supply of sunglasses. Yeah, put them on. A bunch of baseball caps, throw those on, and try to move around like regular people," the singer said. "I can't imagine what it would be like having to live under that big of a magnifying glass your whole life ... and fake mustaches, that's what I'd give them." Brooke Burke went the more traditional route, saying she would get Will and Kate a journal to record the big event. "I would ask them to really take the time to write down thoughts and phrases and wishes," Burke said. "And not really to lose sight of how they feel about each other now and to really hold on to that feeling." Kathy Griffin had good intentions but the comedian couldn't resist a puke joke. "If I had to get the royal couple a gift, I would get them the Royal Couple Vomit Bag, which someone sent me a photo of," Griffin told us. "So you can actually buy vomit bags with their image on it, and I think that that is an honor and I hope that they see it as such." <i>What would you give to William and Kate? 'Underworld: Awakening' Pushes Boundaries, Stars Say

After the international success of the three previous "Underworld" films, it makes sense that everyone involved would be back for a fourth installment — all those whose characters weren't killed off, that is. This week brings us a bright and shiny new chapter in the ongoing war between the vampires and lycans: "Underworld: Awakening." The film essentially picks up after the events in "Underworld: Evolution" and has added several new elements and characters.
"The Underworld is now not so much 'under' anymore," star Kate Beckinsale told MTV News during the recent press day. "Humans are aware of vampires and werewolves. I wake up to find that I've been in some kind of coma for 12 years, and everything is different. As I'm discovering what's different about the world, the audience is on the same page with me, and then it turns out I had a daughter who's now 12, and that's pretty insane for my character."
Newcomer Theo James, an up-and-coming English actor who plays a young and rebellious vampire named David, explained, "We're pushing the boundaries a bit. You have a lot more characters, and it's bigger. It's 90 minutes that doesn't really stop."
India Eisley, a new castmember who plays Selene's newly discovered daughter, agreed: "It's nonstop, back-to-back-to-back action."
Michael Ealy revealed, "What's new and different is that the movie is shot in 3-D, and for the first time, there is a human component," not-so-subtly pointing to himself, indicating that he was referring to his character. "I don't want to spoil it, but it's the first human component in the franchise's history," he said with a smile.
Ealy went on to say that if there is a fifth "Underworld" film, and he ends up in it, he hopes his human character doesn't stay that way for long. "I want to get bit!" he said.

David Beckham To Stay With Galaxy For Family
David Beckham is staying put in America with Victoria Beckham and their children, Romeo, 9, Cruz, 6, Brooklyn, 12, and 6-month-old Harper. The soccer star has extended his contract with the Los Angeles Galaxy for another two years. In recent weeks he was being courted by other clubs, especially by Paris-St. Germain. But the lure of staying with his family has been a priority.
"I've seen first hand how popular soccer is now in the States and I'm as committed as ever to growing the game here," Beckham said. "My family and I are incredibly happy and settled in America and we look forward to spending many more years here."

Usher And David Guetta 'Proud' Of 'Without You'
'When you see R&B and pop and house, as well as electronic, come together, that's the reality of what music is,' Usher tells MTV News.

<P>When <a href="/music/artist/usher/artist.jhtml">Usher</a> and <a href="/music/artist/guetta_david/artist.jhtml">David Guetta</a> hooked up for the French DJ's latest album, <i>Nothing but the Beat,</i> the two superstars created a chart-topping smash, <a href="/news/articles/1670301/usher-david-guetta-without-you.jhtml">"Without You,"</a> that combines Guetta's ear for house beats and Usher's ability to convey a range of emotions with his voice. It's a song that has really stuck with fans of all genres of music. </p><div class="player-placeholder right" id="vid:713197" width="240" height="211"></div><p> The track — a swirling pop ode to not giving up on love in the face of adversity — struck Usher with its emotional core. "David Guetta is an amazing artist," he told MTV News last week at a <a href="/news/articles/1674705/justin-bieber-usher-advice.jhtml">Pencils of Promise charity event</a>. "We talked for many years about working together, and we found a record that was incredible." Usher said it was a song that resonated with him personally. "I think the world wanted a record like that. That [song] really spoke to the journey that I've actually been on in the last three years," he said. "Traveling all around the world, music sounds different. There's many different genres, and when you see R&B and pop and house, as well as electronic, come together, that's the reality of what music is." </p><div class="player-placeholder right" id="vid:688619" width="240" height="211"></div><p> When MTV News talked to Guetta on the <a href="/news/articles/1674728/ama-taylor-swift-nicki-minaj-katy-perry.jhtml">American Music Awards</a> red carpet Sunday, he said "Without You" is a standout track on the album. The LP dropped earlier this year and also includes <a href="/news/articles/1674756/american-music-awards-nicki-minaj-david-guetta.jhtml">Nicki Minaj, who performed with Guetta at the AMAs</a>. "It's one of my favorite songs," he said. "It's just, I'm a DJ, so I want to make people dance always, but I also want to give emotions. LL Cool J 'Thrilled' To Host Grammy Awards
It's the first time the show will have a host since 2005, when Queen Latifah was emcee.

LL Cool J already has experience hosting the annual Grammy nominations concert, and now he's finally ready for the big show. On Wednesday (January 18), it was announced that the legendary rapper has been tapped to host the Grammy Awards broadcast on February 12.
"I'm thrilled to be part of Music's Biggest Night," LL said in a statement, according to People.com. He's hosted the nominations concert every year since 2008. "I will always have fond memories of my first Grammys Awards and to now be hosting the Grammy show, in the company of so many other incredible artists, is a dream come true."
This marks the first time someone has hosted the show since 2005 when Queen Latifah was on hand as the night's emcee. The news of his hosting gig comes one week after it was announced that a slew of eclectic performers were added to the night's bill. Nicki Minaj, Foo Fighters and Taylor Swift join Kelly Clarkson, Jason Aldean and Bruno Mars as some of the lucky nominees who will also take the stage at the show.
Earlier this month it had been rumored that six-time nominee Adele might take the stage at the big show. It would mark her first public performance since her vocal surgery in November. More performers, presenters and special segments will be announced in the coming weeks. The show airs live from Los Angeles on CBS next month.

<P>As 2012 rolls along, <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/lady_gaga/artist.jhtml">Lady Gaga</a> has already teased she has some <a href="/news/articles/1676582/pop-culture-news-2012-beyonce-lady-gaga.jhtml">big plans</a> ahead. So MTV News decided to look to New York-based psychic Jesse Bravo to see what fate has in store for the pop superstar. Bravo recently rolled up to the MTV News offices and looked into his crystal ball. </p><div class="player-placeholder right" id="vid:722498.id:1676617" width="240" height="211"></div><p> "Lady Gaga for 2012, it's going to be sort of a slower year for her because she has her tour, which means she's not putting out a lot of new material," Bravo explained, despite Gaga's tease that she is working on her <a href="/news/articles/1675458/lady-gaga-next-album.jhtml">follow-up to 2011's <i>Born This Way</i></a>. "So for me, when I sort of looked up around there to see what was happening for her, I saw her sales sort of slow down because of new material. But she's also building up this new momentum for running her base for this tour. This tour is going to be really good for her." Gaga has already thought about the <a href="/news/articles/1675649/lady-gaga-born-this-way-tour.jhtml"><i>Born This Way</i> Ball</a>, tweeting over the holidays that she was pondering the things she wants to sell on tour. "Designing merch for the tour, when you see it you will die. <a href="https://twitter.com/#!/ladygaga/status/152392027093483520" target="_blank">#deathbyinexpensiveglamour</a>," she wrote. Mother Monster is also famously known for her wild style, which Bravo said won't disappoint in the next 12 months. "I believe her next big outfit is a cross between two things, and I was sort of stuck in between, like, where I should go with this because I saw two outfits, which means they can come in succession," he said. "I don't know which one is going to come first. But I will believe the one that I saw is this outfit, and I can't really describe it, but it's going to have lights embedded in it. So it's going to be pretty bizarre. And then I saw another outfit and it's like a body outfit, one that you spray-paint on, and I don't know if it's a stars-and-stripes theme, but I saw that there were stars and stripes in the right areas." In addition to all the ups in her career, Gaga's personal life will also prosper, according to Bravo, which means that she may get even more serious with her rumored beau and "You and I" co-star, "Vampire Diaries" actor Taylor Kinney. </p><div class="player-placeholder right" id="vid:722468.id:1676617" width="240" height="211"></div><p> "Her personal life is going to stay stable for a while. The reason why is that on the outside she shows she's a strong character — and for business she is — but on the inside she's a mush. And so as a result, she needs to have her relationship in place, especially right now when she needs that support on going on something that's so big," he said. "Two years is a long, long time [to tour]. I don't think that relationship is going ... it's not going out." Just how serious might they get? Well, Gaga, believe it or not, is already pondering a family, according to Bravo. (Although she did note in a recent interview that the only family she is focused on is <a href="/news/articles/1676799/beyonce-baby-lady-gaga.jhtml">her new music</a>.) "I also feel this need of having children. So I don't know how this is going to play because we know she has a tour and she's not going to stop the tour short to have a child," Bravo predicted. "And I know that work is on her mind, but I know that [her spirit guide] Liberace is telling me about a child. And I know that in the back of her mind, she wants one.
