Usher Brings 2012 BET Awards To A 'Climax'
R&B crooner let his vocals do the dancing with a simple, stripped-down performance.

<P>With two spotlights shining down on him, a sleeveless <MTVNLINK type="artist" id="1270">Usher</MTVNLINK> belted out the first notes of his summer hit, "Climax," at Sunday's <a href="http://www.bet.com/shows/bet-awards/2012.html" target="_blank">2012 BET Awards</a>.</P><P>The R&B crooner stood center stage, wearing all black, save for a pair of hot-colored shoes, and sang the ballad with the electro-beat from his seventh studio album, <i>Looking 4 Myself,</i> in front of a live band. Some wicked, black-and-white animation danced behind him on a large screen that backlit the auditorium.</P><P>This was the first time Usher has performed at the awards show since 2010, where he also sang another ballad, "There Goes My Baby," from his <i>Raymond v. The dance-friendly album was just released last month. "Climax" hit #17 on the singles chart, while second track "Scream" has peaked at #13.</P><P>For his BET Awards performance, the multiplatinum, multi-Grammy-winning R&B singer kept it fairly muted. Save for a few quick microphone movements, he let his vocals dance during the performance. Nearly 740,000 votes were cast across the five categories (hip-hop, R&B, EDM, rock and pop) resulting in a winners' list led by both fan-favorite veteran acts and relative newcomers.</P><P>So who took home the gold in our Summer Jam Games? In April, she <a href="http://rapfix.mtv.com/2012/04/12/beyonce-writes-letter-michelle-obama/">dedicated a note to the first lady</a> via her website, heavy with praise, and this week, Bey delivered the message aloud, in a new <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q1qpzHkA6tQ&feature=player_embedded" target="_blank">video</a> that supports President Obama's re-election campaign.</P><P>"I wrote a letter to the first lady because I wanted her to know that I'm very grateful for everything she's done for our country and also for women around the world," Beyoncé says as she introduces the clip.</P><P></p><div class="player-placeholder right" title="Beyonce Gets Back To Business, Kicks Off Summer!" id="vid:785342" width="415" height="255"></div><p></P><P>During the brief video, the camera cuts from the singer as she begins to read the note, and a set of photos showing Mrs. Obama hard at work and hanging with her family begins to play. "Michelle is the ultimate example of a truly strong African-American," Beyoncé reads as the photos scroll by. "She is a caring mother, she's a loving wife, while at the same time she is the first lady!"</P><P>When Beyoncé originally posted the handwritten note on her site in April, the FLOTUS respond via Twitter, writing, "Thank you for the beautiful letter and for being a role model who kids everywhere can look up to."</P><P>Beyoncé cemented her relationship with Michelle Obama last year, when she teamed up with the first lady to help promote the "Let's Move!" campaign, which targeted childhood obesity. According to Obama, Bey reworked her single "Get Me Bodied" into "Move Your Body," without even being asked, and she was happy to film an accompanying video for the song.</P><P>When Beyoncé made her return to the stage over Memorial Day weekend with a series of concerts at Revel Resorts — her first since baby Blue Ivy was born — the <a href="/news/articles/1685932/beyonce-michelle-obama-atlantic-city.jhtml">first lady made a trip to Atlantic City</a> along with her two daughters to catch the show and later praised Beyoncé for her performance.</P><P>During a May interview with <i>People,</i> the <a href="http://rapfix.mtv.com/2012/05/30/michelle-obama-beyonce-atlantic-city-shows/">first lady expressed just how much she liked the singer</a>. I went to the premiere on Tuesday and it was the coolest thing ever. First, the movie is AMAZING and Chris Evans is a superstar. Second, there were so many damn people there it was insane. I have been to movie premieres in New York before and they were nothing like this. I mean, they closed down Hollywood Boulevard. I would've taken photos to show you, but the invite said to leave phones in the car. But here's a photo of me in my cool Captain America 3D glasses:

<P>This year's September issue of <a href="http://www.vogue.com/magazine/article/dream-girl-lady-gaga/#1" target="_blank"><i>Vogue</i></a> is important not only because it's the <i>September issue,</i> but because it celebrates the magazine's 120 years in the business. And they've chosen the one and only <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/lady_gaga/artist.jhtml">Lady Gaga</a> as their cover girl.</P><P>For her <a href="/news/articles/1657656/lady-gaga-vogue.jhtml">second cover</a>, Gaga went ultra-glam; her hair platinum and big paired with an off-the-shoulder, mermaid-cut Marc Jacobs gown in multiple shades of fuchsia, purple and pink.</P><P></p><div class="player-placeholder right" title="Lady Gaga Twitter Lightning Round!" id="vid:683377" width="415" height="255"></div><p></P><P>The cover line promises, "Think you know Lady Gaga? Think again." And, in several quotes teased from the issue, which officially hits newsstands on August 14, Gaga dishes on not only her <i>Born This Way</i> Ball, but also the reasons she makes the music she does.</P><P>She also explained why it was so important that her fragrance appear so dark. "The fragrance is called <a href="/news/articles/1690972/lady-gaga-racy-fame-perfume-ad.jhtml">Fame</a>. It must be black," she said, noting that when she met with perfume designers they had to make sure it sprayed on clear. "It must be enticing. You must want to lick and touch and feel it, but the look of it must terrify you." As for her massive stage show, she explained that she wanted to "break the mold of what modern touring is now" and reinvent some of the images she's best known for, including that meat dress she wore to the 2010 VMAs.</P><P>"We were talking about putting the show together, and I said, 'OK, what if I was someone's grandma and I was going to a concert tonight? How would I know that it was a Gaga show?' " she said. "And we all just sort of looked at each other and said, 'The meat dress.' "</P><P>If the meat dress wasn't distinction enough, Gaga said what also makes her shows different is the way they make you feel. "I don't really make records for people to listen to and go, 'Wow, she's a genius.' " She added, "I'd really like you to order a drink, maybe kiss the person you came with that evening, or rediscover something about your past that makes you feel even more brave."</P><P>She explains in the issue that sometimes she doesn't just feel brave in her music, but also in her real life. And, despite her extremely high profile, she says she likes to "feel a little irresponsible and act like I'm 19." Usher Stepson Kile Glover's Funeral Set For Friday
The 11-year-old will be laid to rest in Atlanta after being taken off life support.

<P><a href="/news/articles/1689206/ushers-stepson-declared-brain-dead-after-jet-ski-accident.jhtml">Usher's stepson Kile Glover</a> will be laid to rest during a funeral service scheduled to take place in Atlanta on Friday. The 11-year-old died from heart failure last week after being <a href="/news/articles/1690157/usher-stepson-kile-glover-taken-off-life-support.jhtml">taken off life support</a> following a tragic jet-ski accident in early July.</P><P>Glover, who is the son of Usher ex-wife Tameka Foster and Atlanta TV executive Ryan Glover, was struck by a jet ski on Atlanta's Lake Lanier on July 6 while riding an inner tube with a friend. He was immediately airlifted to the hospital, where doctors <a href="/news/articles/1689206/ushers-stepson-declared-brain-dead-after-jet-ski-accident.jhtml">pronounced him brain-dead</a>. Glover was removed from life support last weekend, after his family previously issued statements asking fans for their prayers.</P><P>According to the <a href="http://www.ajc.com/news/atlanta/funeral-for-kile-glover-1484629.html" target="_blank"><i>Atlanta Journal-Constitution,</i></a> the funeral will be held at the Wieuca Road Baptist Church on Peachtree Road in Atlanta at 11 a.m. on Friday.</P><P>"We know God's in control, and are leaning on our faith in Him and His word at this most difficult time," the family said in a statement following the accident. "We firmly believe in the power of prayer and ask that you all continue to pray and lift Kile up, as it's the best way we can all support him now."</P><P>The man driving the jet ski that struck Glover was identified as 38-year-old family friend Jeffrey S. Hubbard. Police have not decided to press any charges so far. A second victim, a 15-year-old girl, was also injured in the accident, but she's said to be recovering after suffering from a broken arm and a cut on the head.</P>

Eminem Beats Lady Gaga, Rihanna To 60 Million Facebook Fans
Rapper now has more Facebook "likes" than any other living person.

<P>If you had to guess which artist has the most Facebook "likes," who would you guess? <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/lady_gaga/artist.jhtml">Lady Gaga?</a> <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/bieber_justin/artist.jhtml">Justin Bieber?</a> <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/jackson_michael/artist.jhtml">Michael Jackson?</a> Close, but no cigar.</P><P><a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/eminem/artist.jhtml">Eminem</a> recently set the record for the most Likes by a living person with 60.1 million, blowing past the competition and landing at #5 on the list of the top 10 Facebook pages.</P><P>According to the <a href="http://pagedata.appdata.com/pages/leaderboard/fc/fan_count" target="_blank">App Data</a> page, Eminem is picking up close to 179,000 new Likes a week (or 26,854 a day), edging out <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/rihanna/artist.jhtml/">Rihanna,</a> who has 59.4 million Likes and is gaining around 167,000 "likes" per week pace (or 22,141 a day).</P><P>The only things blocking the 39-year-old Detroit MC's path to the top are the kinds of wildly popular time suckers that are hard for any flesh-and-blood superstar to pass: YouTube (61.2 million), Texas HoldEm Poker (63.8 million), Facebook itself (70.3 million) and the Facebook for Every Phone page (117.5 million).</P><P>Where do his fellow pop stars land? Shakira is #8 on the list with 53.3 million Likes (just below "The Simpsons" with 53.8 million), then Lady Gaga at #9 (53 million) and Jackson at #10 (51.1 million). Bieber is down at #15 (45.7 million), just ahead of Katy Perry (#16, 45.5 million), Linkin Park (#17, 44.2 million) and Lil Wayne (#20, 39.8 million). You didn't ask, but we'll tell you that MTV is at #27 (36 million).</P><P>Slim Shady might be the Facebook king, but he has quite a way to go when it comes to ruling the Twitter universe. That realm belongs to Gaga, who has more than 27.8 million followers, with Bieber a hair behind at 25.8 million and Perry gaining ground at #3 with 24.2 million. Em, meanwhile, is way down on the list at #19 with 11.8 million followers.</P>

Lady Gaga Unleashes S&M-Tinged Fame Perfume Ad
Mother Monster tweets up her fragrance and then catches Olympics fever.

<P>Just call <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/lady_gaga/artist.jhtml">Lady Gaga</a> the Fame Monster. The singer has just unveiled another ad for her fragrance, the aptly titled <a href="/news/articles/1689786/lady-gaga-nude-perfume-ad.jhtml">Fame</a>, dropping in September.</P><P>While she donned nothing except for tiny men crawling up her body in the last image, this new one features the singer in a clingy PVC bodysuit with a big PVC hat and face mask. The black-and-white photo features two Mother Monsters, facing off in a side-by-side mirror image.</P><P></p><div class="player-placeholder right" title="Lady Gaga's Musical Roots" id="vid:657640" width="415" height="255"></div><p></P><P>Like the first ad, this one was also shot by "Alejandro" video director and fashion photographer Steven Klein. Gaga added that the look was styled by Brandon Maxwell, who has worked for her pal Nicola Formichetti and styled her for "A Very Gaga Thanksgiving." She <a href="http://littlemonsters.com/image/5018ad5dc46c85665b000acb" target="_blank">tweeted</a> out the image late Tuesday, with the message, "Fame is an illusion. If you really want it, anyone can have it."</P><P>In addition to the two photos, she also previously dropped an artsy film, <a href="/news/articles/1689920/lady-gaga-formulation-film-teases-fame-fragrance.jhtml">"Formulation,"</a> featuring beefy scientists cooking up the eau de parfum.</P><P>The same day she unleashed the newest ad campaign, she also tweeted about her tears of joy over the Olympics as Team U.S.A. celebrated a number of victories, including a major achievement for <a href="http://newsroom.mtv.com/2012/07/31/michael-phelps-wins-19th-olympic-medal-most-decorated-olympian-ever/">Michael Phelps, who added another piece of gold</a> to his mantle, and the gold-medal-winning U.S. women's gymnastics team.</P><P>"The olympics is the best ever. but i went through a whole pack of tissues last night. watching hard working athletes achieve their dreams," she wrote, later adding, "Woohoo! Gold for the ladies! just want to squeeze them! So much talent and beauty. Did u seem all holding hands? There's no 'I' in team."</P><P>Lady Gaga will go for record-sales gold when she drops her new album sometime in 2013. Captain America
Go see Captain America this weekend! Support our Colin!
I went to the premiere on Tuesday and it was the coolest thing ever. First, the movie is AMAZING and Chris Evans is a superstar. Second, there were so many damn people there it was insane. I have been to movie premieres in New York before and they were nothing like this. I mean, they closed down Hollywood Boulevard. I would've taken photos to show you, but the invite said to leave phones in the car. But here's a photo of me in my cool Captain America 3D glasses:

Anyway, Captain America is pulling a strong 71% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes right now so GO SEE IT! IT'S FANTASTIC!
