With just months until the 85th Academy Awards, campaigning is underway for various groups and individuals in their hopes to take home an Oscar, but not for Joaquin Phoenix.
"The Master" star recently told Interview magazine the awards circuit is "total, utter bullsh*t, and I don't want to be a part of it," adding, "I don't believe in it. It's a carrot, but it's the worst-tasting
carrot I've ever tasted in my whole life. I don't want this carrot. It's totally subjective. Pitting people against each other ... It's the stupidest thing in the whole world."
The 37-year-old actor was previously nominated for an Academy Award in 2005 for his work in "Walk the Line," and while he didn't win an Oscar, he did win a Golden Globe for Best Actor.
"It was one of the most uncomfortable periods of my life when 'Walk the Line' was going through all the awards stuff and all that," Phoenix told the mag. "I never want to have that experience again. I don't know how to explain it -- and it's not like I'm in this place where I think I'm just above it -- but I just don't ever want to get comfortable with that part of things."
Still, Phoenix's distaste for the process doesn't guarantee he won't take home an Oscar. Mo'Nique previously took home the prize for Best Supporting Actress despite her discomfort with the process.
